When I first saw Belen Sambucety’s art work I was impressed with her handling of composition and colour.  As you look closer you see the loose brush strokes that build up the bright colours in her paintings.  She creates strong compositions by her use of shapes united by one dominant colour.

The painting ‘Tunisian Fisherman’ to the right has stunning detail in the sea of nets around the feet of the fisherman.

After studying Fine Art at the University of Spain, Belen has embraced painting into a way of living, continually pushing her art to the next level.  For over 10 years she has used different techniques from oil, watercolour and inks however of late her choice of medium has been predominantly acrylic paints.

The handling of the paint in the art work ’Old Sailor’, to me, is reminiscent of the style of Van Gogh.  The marks are not there for decoration but to emphasise the form of the old sailors weather beaten face.  The colour balance and composition in this painting are stunning.

Belen’s subject matter for her art ranges wide.  On show at Artdomain are paintings of the Chinese landscape, children with animals (either playing with a pet or a in rural scenes).  She also paints nudes exceptionally well, creating drama from strong shapes and bold use of colour.  This tryptch to the right shows Belen’s highly original choice of composition of the female nude.
