How to Add Paypal Buttons to Sell your Art Online in 10 easy steps
If you would like to have Paypal Buy Now buttons beside your Art, to allow buyers to click to purchase, then this walk through should help you set it up.
Click HERE if you want to see an example of what they look like beside artwork.
Because it is your Paypal account that will receive payments, and it has your personal details, it is you that has to do most of the legwork with getting it set up, but it is not difficult so let’s get started.
1. If you haven’t done already, you need to open a Paypal account. To receive payments online you will need to upgrade your account to a Premier or Business account. Both options are free.
2. Then click on the blue ‘Merchant Services’ tab and at the ‘Useful Links’ section on the right hand side, choose the ‘Buy Now Buttons’ link. Then click the ’Get Started’ on the left hand side. You are now ready to create your Buy Now button.
3. Fill in the ‘Item name’ as the name of the first painting you are going to give a buy now button to. You don’t need to fill in the next option ‘Item/ID number’. Fill in the price / currency / buyers default county and leave the weight blank (unless you wish to price delivery dependant upon weight options set up in your Paypal profile).
4. Choose the button style you want - you don’t need to go too big as you don’t want to detract the eye away from your art in the first instance - you just want the button easy to find when a buyer is looking for it!
5. Check the box to say Yes to Button Encryption.
6. Choose the postage method option you want. It is not totally great here as you cannot specify different rates for overseas buyers etc. The options you have are ‘Use my postage calculations set up in my Profile’ - this allows you to set up different postage amounts according to the value or weight of the artwork or simply ‘Use a flat rate amount’.
Another work round is to have two different Paypal buttons under each artwork for ‘UK Buyers’ and ‘Non-UK Buyers’ (change according to your country). This would mean you would create two buttons for each artwork and the buyer would click on the button according to their location.
7. The last option is ‘Vat Options’ (maybe different for Paypal in other countries) but this can be left blank by most unless you are Vat Registered.
8. Now click the button ‘Create button Now’ and this will take you to a new page with a load of code in a box. Choose ‘Select All’ and this highlights the code. Hold your Ctrl key down and press your C key down to copy this code. Go into your email and open a new email and paste the code into the email (do this by holding down the Ctrl key and pressing the V key down).
9. Now go back to your Paypal window and choose ‘Create another button’ and follow the same procedure for the next artwork that you want to have a Paypal button beside.
10. Once you’ve got all the codes for each artwork pasted into your email (put spaces inbetween the codes to separate), then send it to your web designer, or to Artdomain if you are exhibiting with us, and we will use this code on your web pages to create the Paypal buttons that link up directly with your Paypal account.
If you designing your own web pages then simply go the place on the page where you would like to insert the button, then view the HTML and paste the code into the page and save.
Remember that Paypal charges fees when it process a payment for you. The fees are 1.4%-3.4%+20p however if you are not making many transactions monthly then it is the higher figure of 3.4% of the sale value + 20p per transaction. Artdomain does not charge any additional commission.
Let me know below if any of the above is not too clear and I’ll try and clarify.
