Picasso's signature as logo / brandIn my blog post yesterday I was discussing artist Amanda Bittar’s use of video to promote her art work.  I commented about her use of her logo - the initials of her name - at the beginning of her films.  She also uses her logo to brand her website.  It got me thinking how professional that looked and how it made her work stand out and more recognisable.  The question that came to my mind was why more artists don’t create a logo and use it to brand their art and promotional material? How to photograph and edit your artAn artist can have great work, but if your work is poorly photographed and put online un-edited, it will never look ‘great’ on the web.

You know yourself that the images that catch your eye on the web are the crisply photographed and neatly squared up images rather than the out of focus, dark, uncropped, crazy wallpaper backgrounds or flash glared images.  Or maybe worse still, you do notice these images and think ‘What the heck?’.  Either way, if you don’t photograph and present your art well, it’s not the art that will get noticed. Artists Business Plans and the Long Haul Mindset

I read a fantastic post the other day on Empty Easel’s blog called ‘The SEO Mindset for Artists: Are you ready for a long haul?‘ Basically it discusses that when you are implementing search engine optimisation tactics on your blog or website, you have to have a ‘long haul’ mindset.  You need to work at it consistently for over 4 months to get to the point where you are actually beginning to see the positive effects, namely the big jump in traffic to your site.  Read more »

Painting of Tunisian Fisherman crouched mending fishing netsWhen I first saw Belen Sambucety’s art work I was impressed with her handling of composition and colour.  As you look closer you see the loose brush strokes that build up the bright colours in her paintings.  She creates strong compositions by her use of shapes united by one dominant colour.

Hands up those of you who have a mailing list where people can subscribe to receive regular info from you on your art?

Hands up those of you who don’t?
